The Sound Studies Group is an international academic team dedicated to sound studies across disciplines, regions, and institutions. From theory to practice, it explores all things related to sound. It also operates a Sound Lab in the School of Design, SUSTech Shenzhen.

Xinyue Xu



Xinyue Xu is a sound designer and researcher with a background in sound and music computing. She is currently a Research Assistant at the Sound Studies Group, School of Design, Southern University of Science and Technology. She received her MSc in Sound and Music Computing from Queen Mary University of London, where she worked on practice-based sonification projects, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Arts and Technology from the Beijing Film Academy.

Her research interests focus on sonification, soundscape studies, and sound-based research methods, with particular attention to how sound can translate data, environmental processes, and cultural phenomena into perceptually meaningful and aesthetically structured listening experiences. Her practice follows a research-through-design approach, combining sound design, computational techniques, and critical humanistic perspectives.
