Xiaoyao Ma

Xiaoyao Ma is a visual artist with a profound interest in the intersection of technology and creativity. She graduated from Royal Academy of Art, The Hague with a degree in Interactive/Media/Design. Her artistic practice explores the boundaries between the virtual and the real, the individual and the other.

Xiaoyao’s work often revolves around themes of simulation and identity, seeking to transcend traditional experiences and challenge viewers’ perceptions. She is particularly fascinated by the cognitive processes of computers and their potential as creative collaborators. This passion drives her to continually learn and integrate new technologies into her practice, fostering a unique dialogue between human intuition and artificial intelligence.

In 2024, she started a joint appointment in the Materialities Research Group as well as in the Sound Studies Group at the SUSTech School of Design.
