This is the Sound Studies Group, a loose and idependent group of likeminded sharing an interest for researching various aspects of the world through the lens of sound. The group is led by Dr. Qiushi Xu who is an assistant professor at the SUSTech School of Design in Shenzhen, and Dr. Marcel Zaes Sagesser who is Academic Director of Audio and Visual Media at St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences, Austria. 

Our research focuses on sound in relationship with technology, the environment, and human listening. It includes sound technology, sound studies, philosophy of science and technology, humanities research, sound design, spatial audio, interactive audio, and creative media. The output of this team is published in prestigious international journals and proceedings, at international conferences, and in exhibitions and concert halls.

Ke Xu




Ke Xu is an undergraduate student at the Communication University of China, majoring in TV Editing and Directing. She is a research assistant to Professor Xu Qiushi at the Southern University of Science and Technology. She is a classical music enthusiast with a strong research interest in ancient musical instruments, sociology, the history of technology, and the field of Science and Technology Studies (STS).
