Shenzhen, China

Bocheng Zhong is a Master’s student in Intelligent Manufacturing and Robotics at SUSTech. He works on interactive sound, focusing on material-sound perception, perceptual illusions, virtual reality, and immersive audio for experiences such as virtual museums and virtual concerts. His recent projects include a real-time material-sound synthesizer that maps finger pressure and movement to scratching sounds, synthesizing them in real time to induce material-perception illusions and simulate materials.

Bocheng is a member of Prof. Seungwoo Je's Immersive Design Group (IDG) with a secondary affiliation of the Sound Studies Group. His research has been presented at IEEE VR 2025 and IEEE ISMAR 2025.

He also brings industry experience as an audio engineer and product manager, with practical exposure to wind-noise challenges and consumer electronics, including audio devices, action cameras, AI hardware, and automotive contexts.
